This is the record that opens with the sounds of what’s supposed to be a flyer saucer landing, includes such epics as “Voodoo Chile” and “1983 (A Merman I Should Turn to Be),” and has what’s surely the definitive recording of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” (which Dylan himself rated higher than his own version). By the time he recorded Electric Ladyland, he was further excited by the possibilities recording on 12-track would bring him - not to mention expanding to a double album. Hendrix was unable to work on his own ideas in the studio when he was a backing musician, so once he became a recording artist in his own right, he spent as much time in the studio as he could. Now comes a reissue with a newly remastered version of the album and plenty of previously unreleased extras. ![]() Since acquiring Jimi Hendrix’s music catalog in the mid-1990s, Experience Hendrix has never released an expanded edition of his three core albums (though CD/DVD sets were issued in 2010, the DVD featuring short films on the album tracks).
